Councillor Michael Wilkes, Lord Mayor of Birmingham
I am delighted that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association has chosen Birmingham
as the venue for the 2010 Annual Charity Walk on Sunday 13 June.
The Walk will provide an excellent opportunity for people from all of our
communities to join together in support of the various charities that will benefit
from the event. Birmingham is a multi-cultural, multi-faith city and this
event reflects the cohesive ethos of our citizens in the 21st century.
So many worthy charities will benefit from the walk and I am particularly pleased
that two of them, The Birmingham Fund for Pancreatic Cancer Research and
St Basil's, have been chosen as they are two of the charitable causes that I have
adopted during my term as Lord Mayor.
The Walk will start and finish at the Bordesley Mosque in Garrison Lane and its
ten mile route will take the walker across the city centre and past many points of
interest. Details of the programme are set out in this leaflet.
May I take this opportunity to wish every success to the organisers and those
taking part in the walk and thank you again for choosing to come to Birmingham.

Councillor Geoff Lewis, Mayor of Sandwell 2009/10
During my Mayoral year I am looking to raise funds to benefit Sandwell and
West Birmingham (Dudley Road) NHS Hospitals Coronary Care Unit.
At the end of my year I would like to donate any monies I have raised
giving to the British Heart Foundation, purely to benefit patients from
Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust areas and to the coronary Care
Units to help maintain or provide equipment.
The British Heart Foundation is dedicated to saving and improving lives
every day through pioneering heart research, caring for patients and
families, campaigning for change and providing vital information to help
people care for their own heart health.
In Sandwell and West Birmingham, the BHF fund or adopt five heart
failure nurses and three Arrhythmia Specialist Nurses who each provide vital
local care and reassurance to heart patients and families in their own homes.
